One of the ways I stay close to my son is to be on the lookout for signs. I may not always be conscious of how to direct my attention, as in telling myself, “Today, I will look for signs.” It just happens. I’m a noticer though.
if you have visions in your head, say a car you just bought or are thinking of buying, suddenly that car is everywhere. It was always on the streets and highways, but it never occurred to you to look because it wasn’t on your radar.
Not everyone catches signs at the same level. I’m hypersensitive, whereas Hubby is not. He’s getting better though. For him, it’s a Dodge Challenger because he’s a car guy. That was our son’s favorite car so it’s meaningful to us, and especially to his dad. I probably would not have picked up on the car unless Hubby had told me. Now, when I see one, usually a parking lot, I think, oh, A is here with me today. It doesn’t happen often so that’s how I know it’s special.
We first picked up on the Dodge Challenger sign when we were in San Diego to spread ashes. Somehow the rental car we ordered turned into a black Dodge Challenger instead of a boring sedan. We rolled with it because we knew it was him. We got a good chuckle out of it and we’re pretty sure our son was laughing from above. Dad always drove, while Mom and Bro took turns riding in the back, not always happily. I’m pretty sure our son was cracking up over the mini-spats: “Move the seat up!” “Hey, you’re squishing my knees!”
Our son was very close to us on that trip. While walking to breakfast I spotted a dragon mural on the side of a building. I stopped. My family kept walking until I cried out, “He’s here!” My son was born in the year of the dragon per the Chinese zodiac calendar. The mural caught my eye because it was bold and beautiful, but I also noticed the dragon was purple, his signature color. He was going to breakfast with us.
And that was not the end. While walking around the University of San Diego campus, the school he adored, we stopped in front of the campus church. A year ago, we all stood in that same spot, photographing our son in his graduation regalia. The blue roof tower touched the sky and right above that was a whisp of clouds in the shape of a Chinese dragon. It was distinctive because the body was rippled, like a flowing ribbon. He was with us there too.
While it might seem whimsical or fantasy to some, to me it’s real and to anyone who has lost a loved one. Many friends tell me about seeing butterflies or a bird flapping its wing like a hand-wave and they’re certain it’s their mom or dad. When you know, you know.
We continue to receive purple signs, each one bringing a smile and a warming heart.
Beautiful Francie. As usual. I love that he’s giving you these signs showing he’s with you 💜
Linda, it helps us so much, giving us comfort and hope.💜
Beautiful Francie. I relate. For me, it’s often songs that come on. Some are associated with Salvatore and some feel like messages from him. It’s so special to get the signs and messages from your son. He’s there with you! 💜
