The Perfect Wine From The Perfect Boy

by | Jun 19, 2024 | 22 comments

Whenever the three of us gather, Hubby, TJ, and me, Alexander finds a way to let us know he’s there too. Sometimes it’s smacking us in the moment and others a slow reveal, like a mystery you didn’t know you were solving.

TJ drove down from DC to Cary for a weekend. We were both starved when he arrived, so we promptly drove to fish and chips. On our way, we exited a roundabout while a purple Dodge Challenger cruised into the circle. PURPLE! I have NEVER seen a purple Challenger here. It was like finding a double rainbow or a unicorn. It HAD to be him. I haven’t seen that purple Challenger since, btw.  That guy!

Purple Dodge Challenger

We really did see one but it went by too quickly…this model inspires joy.💜

TJ rolled his eyes but I knew. It makes me happy to think he’s out there with us if not in a human body but a Dodge Challenger body, his favorite car.

We’re a family all about food. We’ve wanted to take TJ to our favorite restaurant in Raleigh, Death and Taxes, but the restaurant is always booked, except this particular weekend. We scored a table, not the counter when we first dined there. We got front-row parking, as in feet from the front door, like we were VIPs! Each ordered something different: seafood, pork, and lamb, making a wine pairing by the bottle tricky.  But TJ was in the mood for a bottle and when your son comes to town, you keep him happy.

I worked in a wine store in college so I learned a thing or two about wine and pairings. I’ve passed this interest on to my family. For TJ, this proved fortuitous in his fine-dining server job in DC. We perused the wine list, TJ found a couple he liked. I gave the list a look-over. The one that stood out to me, Amevive Ravie 2022 from Santa Barbara, because the blend was interesting: Gamay, Syrah, and Mourvedre. I shy away from Santa Barbara wines because they’re usually too big for me, but this one, the Mourvedre in particular, piqued my curiosity.

The server showed us the wine before opening it. A beautiful hummingbird graced the label, a heavenly sign meaning the bringer of joy. (And after further googling, in Indigenous America hummingbirds are messengers between the spirit and physical worlds. (Chills as I write!) We kind of thought it was Alexander but we’re not always sure right away. Like I said, he’s like a stealth mystery you don’t know you’re solving.

Amevive Wine Label

Tastes like heaven.💜😇

We tasted the wine. DANG! If it wasn’t the best wine ever and paired perfectly with each dish. Delicate and elegant making it a perfect food wine. We had to know more about it. Mystery game on!

Amevive:

Pronunciation: “ahm-veev”

Translation: soulful, lively soul, living soul

Definition: the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans and regarded as a distinct entity and separate from the body.

The sub-wine name, Ravie, is French for joy. (More chills as I write. The mystery continues..)

💜💜💜

We ordered six bottles from a wine store in NYC as the winery is sold out. It’s affordable and fantastic, just as our son would like. I promise you will not be disappointed. We’re also wine club members because the wine is so good.

Coveted Collection.💜

Heavenly sent joy from my Angel boy. Enjoy.*

*Poet but didn’t know it, 😉

P.S. The Amevive 2023 release, Peripherie, is similar if you go direct to amevive.com.

What a great story, Francie! I laughed when when you said TJ rolled his eyes, but as Alexander’s mom, you knew! 💜 Save and I rarely drink, but this story really makes me want to try this intriguing wine! Do you happen to know if there are single bottles available to buy online or in stores here in the Bay Area? And thank you for continuing to share these beautiful moments of connection with Alexander! It is a comfort to know that our special loved ones are guiding us 😇

I love how open you are to observing signs. Seeing them can offer so much comfort and bring us closer to those who have left us. I see signs of my dad in funny places since his passing.

    • Francie

Thanks for sharing. I’ve had a few people share their connection to loved ones in bumble bees, butterflies, socks! The signs bring us such joy. Sounds like your dad is having fun with you too.💜

  9. Valerie

I love this story! I remember when you worked at the Boulder Wine Merchant, and when we moved to San Francisco, you were my first friend who knew anything about wine and you are credited in my life with being the one to introduce me to the joys of drinking a delicious bottle of wine.

There are signs everywhere from our loved ones and being open to seeing them is key! 💜

I am so happy you are able to get moments of peace ☮️

    • Francie

I think I influenced a slew of wine appreciators. That makes me so happy! I love getting signs in ways we love, like wine, cars, and birds.💜
